What’s special? – In the BOB CUP, in addition to the individual ranking in your category, you also have the opportunity to take part in a team ranking. Learn more about it here.

To this cup special rules for bouldering apply.
Since contests in halls are based on trust, rules must be clearly defined in order to be fair for everyone. If you are not familiar with the applicable rules yet, you can read them here.

The deadline for submitting results has passed.
The rankings will follow here soon.

The Rulebook
for the BOB CUP 2023

In a cup, special rules apply to bouldering.
Since contests in halls are based on trust, rules must be clearly defined in order to be fair for everyone.

The Start

The starting position of the hands is marked by two start signs, which also indicate the route number of the boulder.

In the contest, each boulder has a clearly marked start. This consists of marked holds for both hands and marked holds for both feet.

After leaving the ground, the competitors must take the marked starting position and keep it under control. (If the starting grips cannot be reached from the ground, it is allowed to start the boulder by jumping up to the starting holds. After that the feet must take the marked starting position.)

Except for the holds defined as start, no other holds or volumes (structures) may be touched with the hands to reach the starting position. However, the wall itself is allowed.

The start is rated as „incorrect“ if, for example:

You are unable to achieve a controlled position with both hands and both feet on the starting handles.

Before reaching the starting position, both hands and both feet touched or used handles or other structures not marked as starting holds.

Flash

A flash is achieved when the boulder is successfully climbed on the first attempt. The boulder may not be tested before!

Conditions:
✅ The start was performed correctly.
✅ The top hold is held in a controlled manner with both hands (3 sec.) or the boulder is exited correctly.

The Top

A top hold is marked by markers.

If a boulder has a clearly defined top hold, it must be held in a controlled manner with both hands (3 seconds). The top can also be the top-out. If so, the exit is marked with a tape at the edge.

The Zone

In contests and championships it is common for each boulder to have a clearly defined zone. The position of the zone is determined by the route setter and is defined with an extra marking.

A zone is reached when the marked hold is held in a controlled manner with at least one hand.

The zone also gives points in the competition and can therefore influence the final placement.

The team ranking
for the BOB CUP 2023

You have also the opportunity to compete as a team in addition to the individual competition.
How does this work?

1. Choose your Team mates

A team can consist of three to six people.

2. BOB CUP Routes

The points of each and every one of you are included in the rating. Requirement: Everyone on the team must have reached at least the zone of the respective route. Only then will a route be evaluated as a team. So motivate each other and go beyond your limits for the sake of your team. 😉🙌

3. The evaluation

Enter your results in our online form. Remember to also register for the team ranking.

The final team results are then as follows:

All routes in which every person on the team reached at least the zone are included in the ranking. The individual results of the team members are added together. The total points are then divided by the number of team members. The result determines your placement.

Example for the calculation:

Team “BOBs Bests” consists of 3 people.

Person 1 reaches the top at Boulder #12 after 2 attempts
Person 2 reaches the zone at Boulder #12
Person 3 flashes Boulder #12
-> Person 1: 25 points + Person 2: 10 points + Person 3: 30 points
= 65 points / 3 = 21,66 points for Boulder #12

Person 1 flashes Boulder #15
Person 2 reaches the top at Boulder #15 after 3 attempts
Unfortunately, person 3 doesn’t make it to the zone
-> Unfortunately, this boulder is not included in the rating.
